CRISFIELD TODAY

Crisfield has long been referred to as “The Crab Capital of the World”. The city is located on the Chesapeake Bay off Tangier Sound near the mouth of the Annemessex River bordered to the south by the Pocomoke River.

CHAMBER EVENTS

Crisfield has an active Chamber which hosts many events including its two signature events, the National Hard Crab Derby, with crab races and boat docking, and the J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clambake, the largest seafood festival in the State of Maryland. It co-hosts the Stars and Stripes Fest (Independence Day Weekend) along with the Wheels on the Waterfront car show. Smaller community events include the Crisfield Halloween and Christmas Parades. These events help raise money to promote Crisfield and also help Crisfield area businesses and community partners.

THE CITY DOCK and
SOMERS COVE MARINA

Crisfield has a protected harbor which encourages fishing and cruising vessels. Many crabbers and oystermen bring in their catch via this harbor which is lined by seafood packing plants. The downtown area rests directly on the waterfront where there is a large city pier. The municipal wharf and much of the town is built on a foundation of oyster shells.

Somers Cove Marina is a well-maintained marina which handles local and transient boaters. It is the largest state-owned marina in Maryland. Amenities include 485 boat slips, a large pavilion, a hotel, a swimming pool, comfort stations, laundry facilities, and three launching ramps. The marina is close to the downtown area of Crisfield. It has a shuttle set-vice.
